Cheese recalled after high levels of listeria detected
Loch Arthur Creamery recalled its Criffel unpasteurised cheese after high levels of listeria monocytogenes were detected in samples.
Following sampling by Dumfries & Galloway Council, the product was deemed to potentially pose a risk to health.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause illness in certain groups of people, such as pregnant women, unborn and new-born babies, and anyone with reduced immunity, particularly the over 60s.
Meanwhile, last year, the FSA said it was considering stricter listeria controls in ready-to-eat foods for vulnerable people in hospitals and other care settings.
