Tofu recalled to prevent food poisoning outbreak
Edinburgh tofu manufacturer The Engine Shed recalled four of its products last week over concerns they could cause food poisoning.
Its vacuum-packed 1kg and 300g Organic Tofu, Tofu burgers and Smoked tofu were all produced with inadequate controlling factors to prevent the growth and toxin production of Clostridium botulinum, The FSA claimed.
A recall has been carried out as a precautionary measure against the spread of food poisoning called botulism.
The FSA advised customers that had purchased the products before April 25 2014, not to consume them and to return them to the store they were purchased from.
Any of the above products purchased on or after April 25 2014 which had both a use-by date and a new batch code (beginning with 000001) were safe to consume as per instructions on the back of the packaging, the FSA added.
