Former Bakkavor boss to lead Soil Association Cert
Former Bakkavor boss Martin Sawyer took over as chief executive of the Soil Association Certification.
Sawyer, who spent almost three-years as interim md of Bakkavor, will be responsible for guiding the certification body through the next phase of its development.
The organic market was in strong growth, exceeding £1.86bn in 2014 in the UK, and £46bn in 2013 worldwide, it claimed.
Sawyer has more than 30 years’ experience in the food manufacturing industry, gained at firms including Premier Foods, Hovis, Bomfords and Oscar Mayer.
He said “I believe that everyone should have access to local, seasonal, affordable, healthy and organic food. I’m looking forward to working with an organisation that shares this vision.
“Soil Association schemes like the Catering Mark already show great success in providing over 1M meals each day, making good food the norm in schools, hospitals, care homes and workplaces – all places where people have little food choice.”
