D-Day celebrated in wartime food pictures
The postcards include the conquering carrots, saluting the spud, Woolton pie, waste not want not, the national loaf and dig for victory.
Each card includes information on government campaigns to encourage people to consume more vegetables, not waste food and plant more food themselves to combat food shortages, during the Second World War.
Campaign
Cards also included poems or recipes relating to the food type or campaign.
The BNF said: “With the passage of time, sadly many of the people who had personal experience of wartime have died, but their experiences can live on through memories of the impact of the war on daily life at that time.”
To view the campaigns enjoy our photogallery, which also includes information on Spitfire planes delivering draught beer during the war, PM David Cameron meeting war veterans and other D-Day celebrations.
