The review is expected to take nine to 12 months to complete, with Elliott providing interim advice in December, before producing his final report in spring 2014.

Elsewhere, The Institute of Food Research appointed Dr Tim Brears as its new chairman, the Consumer Goods Forum appointed Nestlé ceo Paul Bulcke and Royal Ahold ceo Dick Boer as joint co-chairs and Chris Archer joined Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks as its new head of food and drink.
Heineken lost its chief HR officer, and Nestlé vice president Werner Bauer announced his intention to stand down after 23 years. Dairy UK was also left with a role to fill, after Jim Begg announced his retirement as director general.
Richard Pennycook left his role as group finance director for Morrisons after eight years to join the Co-operative Group as group finance director.
Mark Boardman also switched firms, as he left one Lancashire brewer, Thwaites, to join another as national accounts controller for Moorhouse’s.
There were also appointments for Tesco, the Compass Group and Food Innovations Solutions.
