Metal contamination sparks sugar recall
Tereos UK was forced to recall packs of its granulated sugar this weekend, due to the possible presence of small metal pieces.
The sugar has been recalled as a precautionary measure, as it could pose a risk to consumers’ health.
Packs of the sugar were sold as own-label in Sainsbury’s stores – 500g, 1kg and 5kg bags – and under the Whitworths brand in Iceland and Poundland – 1kg and 5kg bags.
Consumers who might have bought the sugar were advised not to eat it and instead return it to the store in was bought from to receive a full refund.
