Greg Clark named business secretary after reshuffle
Greg Clark – former communities and local government secretary – has been named business secretary, following a cabinet reshuffle by new Prime Minister Theresa May.
Clark will now head the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) department, formerly named the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.
He confirmed that he would be looking after climate change in his role at BEIS.
“I am thrilled to have been appointed to lead this new department,” said Clark.
“It [BEIS] is charged with delivering a comprehensive industrial strategy, leading government's relationship with business, furthering our worldclass science base, delivering affordable, clean energy and tackling climate change.”
James Court, head of policy and external affairs for the Renewable Energy Association, said he was delighted with Clark’s appointment.
“He previously showed real vision as the shadow energy secretary and we look forward to working with him once again in order to get things moving on the deployment of new renewable energy infrastructure,” said Court.
