Independent chairman role appointed at First Milk
First Milk has appointed Sean Rickard as the independent chairman of its member council.
As part of the member council, Rickard – who started in his new role on July 7 – will help oversee the strategy of the business and represent First Milk’s farmer owners.
His appointment followed a governance review by the company last year that led to the implementation of a leaner and more commercial Board structure and strong Member Council.
A professional economist over the past 40 years, Rickard was chief economist of the National Farmers Union’s from 1987-1995.
He was also senior lecturer in business economics and then director of the MBA programme at Cranfield School of Management from 1995–2012.
Rickard said he was delighted to work with First Milk and hoped bring further success to the company.
“For my part, I am very mindful of the responsibility that is now invested in me,” said Rickard.
“I will be working hard to ensure that members are fairly rewarded for their loyalty as First Milk moves forward to realise its potential.”
