Colin Dennis
Professor Colin Dennis, the first non-American president of the US Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), has a career in food science spanning almost 45 years.
After 11 years at the Institute of Food Research in Norwich, he joined Campden BRI in Chipping Campden in 1981 as head of the Food Technology Division.
Dennis was appointed director general in 1988, a position he held for 21 years. He was also the Unilever visiting professor in food science at Queen’s University, Belfast, from 1991 to 2006.
Dennis is currently a fellow and president of the IFT, the chairman of the board of trustees of IFIS Publishing and of the Research Committee of Flanders Foods in Belgium.
He also serves on the General Advisory Committee on Science at the Food Standards Agency, on the Advisory Board of the International Food Network in the US, and is a governor of the British Nutrition Foundation and the Royal Agricultural University.
He is also on the board of the National Skills Academy.
He is a certified food scientist, a chartered scientist, a fellow and past president of the Institute of Food Science & Technology and a fellow of the International Academy of Food Science & Technology.
