‘Biggest and most exciting’ investment in 40 years
A £31M investment to modernise equipment and improve efficiencies was the “biggest and most exciting” outlay at Allied Bakeries’ Stevenage site in 40 years, the firm’s general manger Russell Zaple told Food Manufacture.
The bulk of the investment in the site was made once Zaple had “made the jump” and left his logistics role at Allied and joined his current production position.
Zaple joined Allied 11 years’ ago as logistic manager, following a career at logistics firms such as TNT.
The scout and rugby club volunteer Zaple told us the firm had invested in a new bread facility capable of producing 9,000 loaves per hour, five new silos, a sieving area, mixing facilities, rounders, rollers and a prover.
All this is part of Allied Bakeries’ £210M investment across its five manufacturing sites.
The firm produces bread for the Kingsmill, Allinson and Burgen brands.
