Charlene and Michel de Carvalho
Last years’ richest people to make their fortune from food and drink, Charlene and Michel de Carvalho-Heineken, had to settle for second place this year.
The wealth of the only daughter of the late Freddy Heineken and her husband dropped by £635M to £6.3bn over the past 12 months.
They inherited their fortune in 2002, and have a £5.6bn stake in Heineken. Since 2000 it has received £715M in dividends, but the brewer saw beer sales drop last year.
Heineken had two beer adverts banned by the Advertising Standards Authority in the last year, one for misleading consumers and the other for condoning illegal drinking.
The brewer threatened 97 jobs at its Ledbury plant, last month, when it announced plans to move cider production to Hereford.
