Food retailers to go back to basics
This year will see a trend of shop owners forgoing opening larger, more expensive stores and instead setting up shop in smaller locations.
Small shops are opening in less-trodden parts of town and seeing queues stretching out of the door, according to the judges.
Food writer Joanna Blythman said: “These businesses are making a conscious decision not to take on huge bank loans and want to run a business they love.
"Whether social enterprises or groups of passionate entrepreneurs, there's a move away from relentless unsociable hours and over-borrowing,” she said.
