How important is it that for lean and green approaches to work that food and drink manufacturers have lean ‘champions’ in their operations? submitted by Rick Pendrous.
Jeremy Praud: “For any type of business priority to remain a priority, there needs to be an individual or individuals within the organisation who cares about that priority. That’s why organisations across the board have realised the need for quality managers if they want their business to care about quality. The same is true for continuous improvement: improvement champions ensure that a business cares and takes seriously it’s improvement agenda, be that with either or both a Lean and Green focus.
“Improvement Champions are the key to ensuring processes are working, and that everyone is trained in the tools and effectively supported in making improvement happen.
“One of the greatest benefits that could come from the lean manufacturing audits will be to build a network of improvement champions across UK fast-moving consumer goods manufacture, and show what their continuous improvement programmes can deliver in improving efficiencies, reducing waste, and driving ever improving manufacturing cost per unit”.
