Dairy UK appoints new chair
Dairy UK elected United Dairy Farmers ceo Dr David Dobbin as its new chairman at its annual general meeting this month.
He took over from Billy Keane who had held the position since 2013.
Dobbin said he was “acutely aware” of the challenges along the supply chain for farmers and processors alike.
“We must continue to be market rather than production led, continue to build our international competitiveness and continue to create added value through product and process innovation,” he said.
“There are clearly opportunities to promote British dairy produce and increase our market share in our home market, as well as grow exports.”
Dobbin added that the industry would need government support to achieve its goals.
Dairy UK also elected Paul Vernon from Glanbia Cheese and Peter Giørtz-Carlsen from Arla Foods as vice-chairs of the organisation.
