Dairy Crest puts 260 jobs at risk
Dairy Crest announced proposals to close two factories in September 2014 – threatening the future of 260 roles.
The firm proposed to end production at its sites at Hanworth in West London and Chard in Somerset amid plans to ditch glass milk bottles.
It said the plans were necessary to protect the long-term future of the business and reflected reduced demand for milk in glass bottles.
The Chard site is expected to close in the second half of 2015 and the Hanworth site will shut in about a year and a half.
Unite the Union blamed the move on retailers’ prize squeeze on dairy producers.
