Groceries Code Adjudicator to dominate food law
The impact of the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) will dominate the food law landscape of 2014, predicts law firm Roythornes.
Roythornes forecasts the year will see an increased focus on how the GCA can deliver stronger industry growth and fairer supply chains.
“We may see the Groceries Supply Code of Practice being enforced more stringently and the future of the food supply chain come under scrutiny,” said Roythornes. “It will be interesting to see how government, regulators and the food industry can work together to strengthen consumer confidence in the provenance of food products.”
Earlier this year, the GCA, Christine Tacon, told FoodManufacture.co.uk that her top priority was preventing needless breaches to the code by ensuring people understood the law.
Roythornes also said that trends towards cutting food waste, EU ingredients control, supply chains provenance and labelling and zero hour contract/living wage would shape food law in 2014.
