Cutting food waste
Cutting food waste will be the top trend among food and drink businesses for 2014, according to Innova Market Insights.
The ‘Waste Not Want Not’ trend reflected food manufacturers’ efforts to reduce food loss and waste. Food waste during production and at the retailer and consumer end of the food-supply chain will all be heavily scrutinized by businesses throughout 2014, Innova predicted.
Ingredients derived from waste streams were also said to hold big potential.
The other top four trends were improving consumer trust, going back to basics, small-scale innovators, and a more holistic approach to nutrition.
Also making the top 10 list were: ‘New’ superfoods, Rise of the hybrid, protein, stealth strategies and alternative alternatives.
