Specialist ingredients firm Thew Arnott Group has completed the sale of its colours business to a specialist firm in Germany.

The deal, the terms of which have not been disclosed, will see the sale of the Horizon Specialities business to Extrachem.

Extrachem GmbH has been a partner and distributor for Horizon Specialities’ range of colours, dyes, pigments and lakes in Germany for several years.

Lecithins, starches, coatings

The sale allows Thew Arnott, which is headquartered in Wallington, Surrey, to focus more on its core ingredients business. Its products include lecithins, starches, coatings and polishes for the food, pharmaceutical, and personal care industries.

Extrachem GmbH has a strong position in the food and feed industry, as well as home and personal care markets in Germany and Europe. The addition of the Horizon range of products will further strengthen the company’s in-house expertise and competitive position in the marketplace.

“Traditionally, Thew Arnott was not in the colour business in any major way,” Thorsten Bornholdt, Thew Arnott marketing manager, told Food Manufacture.

Extrachem

“This sale will allow them to grow and focus on their core business, while allowing Extrachem GmbH to expand further.”

Food and drink colouring has played an increasingly important role among the younger generation over the past few years.

Growing consumer demand has seen calls for specialist firms to source these colours correctly.
