Food Manufacture Excellence Awards shortlisted manufacturer Nim’s Fruit Crisps has launched its own range of tea and infusions.

Promoted as a drink and snack in one, the range is made exclusively from dried fruits and vegetables and is available in three variants – beetroot & parsnip, pineapple & kiwi and pineapple, beetroot & parsnip.

The handmade loose tea infusions will retail in 12 single sachets of 12g portions. Nim’s claimed the product made for a healthy alternative to caffeinated or herbal teas.

Commenting on the launch, founder Nimisha Raja said: “With our core products doing very well, we decided to look at other ways we could use air-dried fruit and veg and our R&D team came up with the idea of fruit and vegetable teas.

Appetite for edible tea

“We completed some initial market research and ‘tastings’ proved very successful… the appetite was definitely there for these products. They taste great – eaten or drunk – are high in fibre, vitamin C and can make up one of your five a day.”

Nim’s Teas launched alongside a range of air-dried fruit and vegetable slices for use in cold and hot drinks to infuse them with flavour.

The dried slices remove the need for fresh fruit and are said to reduce prep times in the foodservice sector. Nim’s claimed food waste was reduced as a result.

Nationwide use

“Initially, we’ve got cucumber, lime, lemon and orange flavours available, with the latter already being used by one of the UK’s leading coffee shop chains,” Raja added.

“The infusions have proved immensely successful, especially over the Christmas period. Now, we’re looking forward to seeing sales grow in 2019.”

Kent-based Nim’s expected to turnover a “record” £900,000 by the end of 2018, after securing listings in the Co-op, online retailer Ocado and more than 1,400 Tesco stores.

Meanwhile, Nim’s was shortlisted for Ambient Manufacturing Company of the Year at this year’s
