What qualification does an assessor need?
Under the scheme, approved assessors will carry out assessments to identify energy saving recommendations.
Many people – including representatives from the Irish Dairy Board, Honeywell, Broadland Wineries and Energrade – got in touch to ask exactly what qualifications assessors would need.
Adams: “ESOS lead assessors can be employees or external contractors as long as they are members of a register approved by the Environment Agency.
“A number of professional bodies have submitted registers which are being considered for approval – details of these will be published here.
“If you want to become a lead assessor then you have to be – or become – a member of an approved professional body register. Individuals can’t apply directly to the Environment Agency to be approved.
“Professional bodies can submit registers of their members for approval to act as ESOS lead assessors.”
John Finn, site electrical and energy manager at Molson Coors: “How in-depth will the audits be for industrial sites?”
Rutter: “This will depend on the complexity and mix of your production processes as all different types of production process need to be audited.
“If you plan to use an external Lead Assessor the extent of the survey work should be part of the initial discussions when confirming the scope of the work.”
