Leatherhead Food Research’s top trends for 2013
Leatherhead Food Research predicted the ageing population would create opportunities for food manufacturers, sustainability would rise up the corporate agenda and commodity prices would continue to rise.
LFR’s predictions for 2013, published in January, proved our most popular news article of the year.
LFR also predicted rising obesity levels would prompt legislation on the use of salt, fat and sugar and the improving popularity of ‘healthy’ foods.
Poor harvests in the northern hemisphere would mean commodity prices would rise and pressure on resources would be compounded by consumption by emerging markets.
