Cadbury chocolate joke wins Edinburgh Festival award
While few of the articles published on FoodManufacture.co.uk in 2013 prompted mirth, one that might was a joke about Cadbury’s chocolate Wispa bar.
It was voted the funniest joke of the 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, in August.
The winning joke – from London-based comic Rob Auton – was: “I heard a rumour that Cadbury is bringing out an oriental chocolate bar. Could be a Chinese Wispa.”
Auton said he was honoured that a joke that tackled the serious issue of the invention of a new chocolate bar could be laughed at by the people of Britain.
And the laughs inspired by the food industry didn’t stop there, another food-based pun was also recognised at the festival.
Gary Delaney’s joke, “I can give you the cause of anaphylactic shock in a nutshell”, was voted fifth funniest.
Not everyone was impressed. More than half (63%) of FoodManufacture.co.uk readers said they had read funnier things on the back of a Cornflake packet, according to our exclusive poll.
