Quorn Foods chief executive Kevin Brennan is to relinquish his role to Alaska Milk Corporation boss Marco Bertacca, ending a successful 10-year tenure with the meat-alternatives manufacturer.

Brennan has driven a period of sustained growth for Quorn in recent years, during which the company reported double-digit global sales growth. Under his leadership, the brand has increased investment in marketing and research & development to propel it to one of the top food brands in the UK.

The company also saw success in the US under Brennan’s leadership, with a 50% increase in distribution in 2019 alone.

‘Transformational impact’

Henry Soesanto, chief executive of Quorn owner Monde Nissin, said: “Kevin has made a transformational impact on the Quorn business, but we understand his desire to step down at this point and thank him for his commitment to the company throughout his tenure.

“We are pleased that Kevin will stay on until mid-2020 in a consultative role to ensure a smooth transition and to complete some key growth projects.”

Brennan is to be replaced by former Alaska Milk Corporation managing director Marco Bertacca, who will relocate to North Yorkshire from the Philippines. He will assume the role of Quorn chief executive from 6 January 2020.

Industry veteran

A veteran in the industry, Bertacca has held a number of senior roles with food and drink companies, including Friesland Campina, BakeMark, Unilever and CSM Bakery Solutions.

Commenting on Bertacca’s appointment, Brennan said: “Marco has a breadth of food industry experience which is highly relevant to Quorn Foods and matches it with the leadership capabilities to take the company on to the next phase of its journey, one which I believe can materially impact the health of the public and our planet.

“The next five years are going to be defining for our business and require consistent and strong leadership to chart the course that the company will take.”
