The new full-time, permanent employees will join the chilled food manufacturer’s cream cake manufacturer’s 1,400 members of staff at the site in Nottinghamshire.
The need for new employees highlighted Bakkavor’s growth, its head of human resources for desserts Caron Brooks said.
“Now is a really exciting time for Bakkavor Desserts Newark as we continue to grow from strength-to-strength and this is demonstrated by the sheer scale of our recruitment drive,” Brooks said.

Bakkavor’s desserts division produces 170M packs of desserts such as éclairs, doughnuts, tarts and slices, fruit and chocolate trifles, and profiterole stacks from the site each year.

New recruits would receive competitive rates of pay, training and career development opportunities and have access to a wide range of other benefits, Bakkavor claimed.
This includes access to a staff shop selling products – such as cakes, pizzas, ready meals, salads and fruits at discounted prices.

The money earned through the staff shop is put back into employees’ facilities and wellbeing as decided by the Site Employee Forum with the canteen currently undergoing refurbishment.
Meanwhile, Bakkavor’s revenue rose by 4% to £425.5M for the first quarter on the year to March 28 2015.
Bakkavor’s UK business delivered a 2% growth in revenue to £372.2M driven by improved volumes in pizza, salads and bread, the firm said.
Its strategy of focusing on the UK, US and Asia was working well, its ceo Agust Gudmundsson said.
