Studying home economics from an early age at school sparked Alice Marks’ passion for the food industry, she said.
“Working in the food industry is something that I’ve always thought about, I really enjoyed home economics at school and went forward to do a food degree at Queen’s University Belfast,” said Marks, who works in new product development for Northern Ireland-based Willowbrook Foods.
Learning that she was shortlisted to win the Young Talent of the Year Award was a “total shock” and something she never expected to happen.
In the future, Marks hopes to make further progress in new product development and potentially work towards a managerial role.
“I enjoy exploring different flavours and ideas and coming up with new products too,” she said.
“Recently I’ve worked with my manager to develop a mashed potato product for one of our biggest accounts and that’s grown massively to be our best-selling product.”
