The installation of Ishida’s latest snacks packing solution - 18-head multi-head weighers and Atlas bagmakers with advanced Ishida integrated Total Packaging Systems (iTPS) software - at Kolak Snack Foods in London, is helping to nearly triple output of the firm's crisp and extruded snack ranges.

In their twin configuration, the new iTPS take up only about one and half times the space of a previous single multi-head weigher and bagmaker, yet can deliver around 220 bags a minute for crisps and as much as 280 bags a minute for extruded snacks, compared with 80 and 90 bags respectively with the older equipment. At the same time, they are achieving accuracy to within 1% of target weight.

The iTPS systems also form part of a multipack operation with individual packs able to be transferred to one of two 16-head Ishida RZ series weighers. These can produce multipacks of 10 or 12 same variety packs at 40 a minute, and 32 packs of four different varieties at 30 a minute.

Kolak supplies major retailers in the UK and Europe, as well as its own products under the Kolak, Jacksons, Diamond and Dylan's brands. The new Ishida iTPS systems follows the firm’s latest investment of nearly £10M in a new factory next to its existing premises to make extruded snacks.
