2 Sisters £1M lab to help beat campylobacter
2 Sisters Food Group’s boss, Ranjit Boparan, claimed the firm’s new “world-class” £1M microbiology lab would help to reduce and eradicate campylobacter, at the official opening of the foodborne germ detection hub in September.
“We are working closely with Catherine [Brown] at the FSA [Food Standards Agency] to eradicate and reduce campylobacter – this new lab will play a key part in that,” Boparan said.
FSA chief executive Catherine Brown praised 2 Sisters for taking the initiative of creating a new lab.
"Talking the talk on eradicating campylobacter and making it a top five business priority for businesses is a critical first step towards walking the walk and saving lives,” she said.
"I would like to see other food businesses and retailers publicly embracing a commitment to reducing or eradicating campylobacter as a top five business priority and responding to the agenda that 2 Sisters have been instrumental in setting."
The new lab will employ 60 people and can conduct 16,000 tests a week.
