Mars Wrigley UK, which produces brands including M&M's, Milky Way and Skittles, has announced Adam Grant’s appointment as general manager (GM).

With 25 years’ consumer goods industry experience, Adam joins Mars Wrigley from Danone, where he spent 17 years. His most recent role was regional GM - Danone Dairy UK, Belgium, Netherlands and Ireland, where he led the team to deliver significant growth in sales and category share and was also instrumental in driving Danone’s purpose.

Adam’s career encompasses roles in general management, commercial management, and brand development. He began his career at Unilever on the graduate management training programme, after which he joined L’Oréal where he ultimately became UK sales director - Garnier/Maybelline.

He moved to Danone in 2004, where he has enjoyed roles including commercial director – Danone Dairy UK, GM - Danone Dairy UK & Ireland and GM - Danone Waters UK & Ireland.

First external hire for UK GM role

His appointment marks the first external hire into the UK GM role at Mars Wrigley, which has had its headquarters in Slough since 1932.

Reduction in plastic use

Last year, Mars Wrigley UK announced a reduction in plastic use for some of its most popular packs from April 2021, saving a minimum of 51 tonnes or the equivalent to 90 football pitches of plastic a year. The announcement marked the latest step in Mars’ Sustainable in a Generation plan, working towards a healthier planet and towards developing packaging that is 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable, while decreasing virgin plastic use by 25% by 2025. 

Across its UK businesses, Mars has recently announced that it will remove one million miles a year from roads with a new £350m sustainable logistics operation in partnership with DHL that will see the construction of two facilities and deliver annual outbound logistics CO2 savings of 7.7%.

Adam officially started in his new role on 1 March.
