FSA director elected vice chair of international food safety organisation
Steve Wearne, director of policy at the Food Standards Agency (FSA), has been appointed vice chair of international food standards organisation the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
FSA chairman Heather Hancock said: “Steve’s appointment is a real vote of confidence in the UK’s leadership in modern, accountable food regulation.
“I’m delighted that he and the FSA will be taking such a significant role in setting the standards for food globally.”
The Codex Alimentarius Commission is the organisation that develops global food standards, guidelines and codes of practice for food safety and quality.
The Commission was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the World Health Organization to protect consumer health and promote fair practices in food trade.
