Planning consent ‘imminent’ for ABP Beef’s new £20M development
The construction of ABP Beef’s new £20M-plus development at its Shrewsbury plant in Shropshire could create 300 new jobs, depending on planning permission from the local authority.
The Shrewsbury site currently employs around 800 staff.
The development at the Shrewsbury site will enhance ABP’s capacity to pack products for retail, chief executive Tom Kirwan said.
“We have outgrown the existing operation,” he added. ABP Beef has two centralised meat packing plants – at Ellesmere in Shropshire and Doncaster in Yorkshire.
“It will probably take two years to build [the Shrewsbury facility] and I would see us starting within eight weeks of getting planning permission,” he said.
