Workplace fatality statistics
There were 27 fatal injuries to workers in manufacturing, 23% higher than the five-year average (22) in the 2015–16 period, according the Health and Safety Executive’s Statistics on fatal injuries in the workplace in Great Britain2016.
The latest rate of fatal injury is 0.92 per 100,000 people, compared to an average rate of 0.79 over the last five years. Within the latest year, there were three incidents in the manufacturing sector resulting in eight deaths.
Over half the fatal injuries to workers were of three kinds: falls from height, being struck by a vehicle and being struck by a moving object.
