Hovis remains strong among UK consumers
Cheshire baker Hovis takes the fourth spot in the list, with almost three quarters of UK consumers (74.2%) buying its products 16 times a year.
Hovis was first produced in 1890 and its name derived from the Latin ‘Hominis Vis’, meaning strength of men. It was the winning submission in a national completion to name the brand by Herbert Grime – his prize was £25.
By 1895, 1M loaves were sold a week. Hovis is now jointly-owned by The Gores Group (51%) and Premier Foods (49%) and employees 3,800 people at 10 bakeries, 6 flour mills and two distribution centres across the UK.
