Dominic Watkins

DWF’​s head of food group Dominic Watkins told attendees about the opportunities and threats that the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership could bring food and drink businesses.  ​​

Watkins:​ “We’re in the mist of negotiating a trade agreement with the US from a European base so that’s a great opportunity for European businesses to access the vast US market with more standardised regulations and with removals to some of the barriers to trade – so in principal that’s a fantastic thing.​

“Devil will always be in the detail – this thing has been negotiated for some time and is obviously very complex and is continuing to be negotiated for some time to come. So we will have to wait and see what the real outcomes are. ​

“It’s an opportunity but also a threat because many companies are going to go across the Atlantic to the US, there’s going to be as many businesses seeing Europe as a great opportunity.”​
