Pladis has agreed a pay deal with workers at its Aintree factory, which produces Jacob’s Cream Crackers and Twiglets.

It is understood that the agreement is for 6.5% backdated to January and 3% for the following year.

Plus staff are to receive two bonus payment to help with the cost-of-living crisis with £500 this year and £250 in 2023.

Last month Pladis said its door “remains open” with union GMB after 750 of its workers were to stage a permanent strike over pay.

At the time the union said that workers at the factory were to stage a permanent strike in anger at a “real terms pay cut”.

Pay rise

It is understood at the time that the workers were offered a pay rise of almost 9% over two years and a one-off payment of £500.

Pladis temporarily moved some production of Jacob’s Cream Crackers to a third-party partner in Portugal.

GMB said that the strike action at the site had lasted 11 weeks before a deal was agreed.

Lisa Ryan, GMB Organiser, said: “These workers have stuck together – and secured a decent pay offer through their commitment.

“They needed something to help them during the cost-of-living crisis.”

Positive step

Pladis UK&I spokesperson said: “We are pleased to have reached an agreement with the GMB and its members at our Aintree bakery.

“This is a positive step forward as we can continue delivering for our customers and baking the great British products that our consumers know and love.”

This is the latest pay deal made in the food manufacturing sector.

Strike action at Fox’s biscuit factory in Batley, Yorkshire has been averted after a pay offer was accepted by staff.

Princes Food Group has agreed a pay deal with workers without the need for industrial action.
