Meet the finalists: Frozen Manufacturing Company of the Year

Birds Eye 

Birds Eye, owned by Nomad Foods, comprises of the Birds Eye, Goodfella’s and Aunt Bessie's brands.  It also manufactures pizza for selected own label providers.

Birds Eye launched 76 years ago, producing frozen food from its UK and European manufacturing plants.

This year Birds Eye relaunched its meat-free Green Cuisine brand platform with a significant media investment. During 2021/22 Goodfella’s innovated its pizza portfolio to maximise its proportion of non-HFSS products. 

This year the company also introduced a new quality assurance process at its Lowestoft manufacturing plant. 

All its UK sites now run-on renewable energy and Nomad Foods has targeted reducing operational greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 45% from a 2019 baseline. 

The Ice Co

The Ice Co manufactures over 60m bags of ice a year such as Party Ice and Super Cubes for the retail, wholesale and HORECA markets. 

The company, which was established over 160 years ago, in 1860, is still family owned today.

This year it launched new paper packaging for ice products which is part of its sustainability focus.

The company also continues to run on 100% renewable energy. It has also focused on reducing ice wastage, plastic reduction and is working towards a closed loop system.

In 2022 it built a new factory increasing its capacity by 20%. This was built with state-of-the-art equipment and automated where possible.
