A Mediterranean, plant-based diet might reduce the risk of frailty in older individuals, a study by University College London has found.
A diet reliant primarily on plant-based foods – such as fruits and vegetables, wholegrains, legumes, and nuts – might help keep people healthy and independent as they age, according to the report led by Kate Walters and Gotaro Kojima.
People who followed a Mediterranean diet the most were overall less than half as likely to become frail over a four-year period compared with those who followed it the least.
