2 Sisters Food Group is to create 100 new jobs at its East Anglian chicken processing facility, following an upgrade of the factory ahead of the busy Christmas period.

The site at Flixton in Suffolk is offering a wide range of career choices, including roles in engineering, finance, training and health and safety.

General manager at the factory Allison Smith said: “The upgrade at Flixton will enable us to grow business and provide new career opportunities for people in the region.”

“This is great news for the site and acknowledges the loyalty and capability of our fantastic colleagues that continue to go the extra mile each and every day to supply our customers with great quality, safe chicken.”

Attracted to the positions

2 Sisters Flixton’s human resources manager John Gibson hoped that younger people would be attracted to the positions on offer at the site.

Young people in particular often don’t see the food industry as their first choice for a career but we can offer a wide range of exciting job opportunities,” said Gibson.

“We’ve learnt that identifying the right people first time allows their careers to grow and we have many people that started on the shop floor now running senior teams.”

‘Great place to work’

He added: “Flixton is such a great place to work and we are like one big extended family, from senior management right through to the shop floor.”

Previously Buxted Chickens, the Flixton poultry site has been in production now for more than 40 years and is located at a disused World War 2 airfield.

The site currently processes up to 1M birds a week. The site packs about 350,000 birds and cuts between 180,000 to 300,000 a week.

Meanwhile, last week, savoury pastry manufacturer Pukka Pies revealed plans to build a new factory and create 150 jobs in Leicestershire.
