A herb grower has celebrated a £200,000 investment by hosting an open day to show food producers the versatility of herbs and edible flowers.

Herbs Unlimited, which grows traditional and speciality herbs, edible flowers and baby salad on a 92-acre farm just outside Thirsk, plans to double the size of its packhouse by 2018.

Optimising growth

Md Alison Dodd (pictured right) said the investment would enable the company to optimise growth opportunities in the wholesale markets and through the increasing popularity of food boxes.

Held last month, the open day was designed to celebrate the versatility of herbs and edible flowers and to inspire food companies and chefs to use them in more creative ways.

Farm tour

Guests were given a tour of the farm and greenhouses, while chef Stephanie Moon (centre) produced taster canapes that highlighted different ways to use speciality herbs and edible flowers.

Herbs Unlimited employs 45 staff and has a turnover of £4M.
