Tesco has been forced to launch an investigation after a worker found £1M worth of cocaine in a box of bananas at one of its Berkshire stores.

An employee was unpacking the fruit at the store in Wokingham when they found five 1kg bags of cocaine, with an estimated street value of more than £1M, according to The Mirror.

A spokeswoman for Tesco confirmed it had launched an investigation to FoodManufacture.co.uk, but revealed no further details.

“We reported an issue to the police, and we are helping them with their investigations,” she said.

Last year, a customer found a deadly Brazilian Wondering Spider in a bunch of bananas delivered from Waitrose.

Earlier this year drug smugglers accidently sent a large shipment of cocaine to an Aldi store in Berlin. It was actually the second time this has happened, as in January 2014 £5M worth of cocaine was sent to the same store.
