In-mould label thermoforming

RPC Bebo-Plastik has begun the manufacture of packs using its In-Mould Label Thermoforming (IML-T) technology, following the installation of a dedicated line at its factory in Bremervörde, Germany.

The company's first customer will be German mozzarella producer Goldsteig, for which RPC will make a new custom-moulded container.

According to the company, IML-T brings premium quality decoration to the thermoforming sector, enabling food manufacturers to create effective branding and on-shelf differentiation in highly competitive markets. Packs also come with lightweight and barrier benefits of thermoformed packs.

RPC says high-capacity output makes the investment in tooling and handling equipment cost-effective. Potentially, existing tools can also be modified with minimal outlay, it adds.

IML-T applies pre-printed labels to a container during the thermoforming process, meaning intricate, multi-coloured designs in up to eight colours can be incorporated to achieve a better level of finish and greater coverage than with direct printing. Labels can be applied to any container shape and the same system can handle different packaging shapes and weights.

Typical applications include spreadable products, snacks and a number of replacement projects for can and glass.
