Moguntia Food Ingredients, winner of the Small Company of the Year in the Food Manufacturing Excellence Awards, has big plans for the future, according to the firm's operations director Marc Jordens.

In this video interview, Jordens explained that the tough economic market had brought some silver linings. One was the opportunity to contact potential clients.

Privately-owned blending company Moguntia won praise from the judges for its impressive organic growth. The bespoke seasonings and spice blends firm doubled its turnover from £4.5M in 2007, to a projected £9.2M this year.

Growth was driven by new customers as well as a rise in orders from existing customers in traditional and new business sectors.

Its adoption of modern production methodologies, such as lean manufacturing, together with focused investment have helped the company raise output by 51% with 10% fewer workers.

The Small Company of the Year award is presented to the best small UK food or drink manufacturer – typically employing fewer than 100 staff and with a turnover less than £10M a year.
