Billboard of banana highlights price war
Sticking with bananas, a giant billboard made from the fruit was unveiled on Clapham Common in a bid to end the retailer price war trapping thousands of banana workers in poverty.
Celebrities – including comedians Harry Hill and Eddie Izzard, TV presenter Amanda Holden and reality TV star Cheska Hull – flocked to the unveiling of the 6 x 4 metre billboard to show their support for the ‘Fairtrade Fortnight Make Bananas Fair’ campaign.
Artists Henry Coate and Toby Crowther used more than 5,000 yellow and green Fairtrade bananas and spent three days and 11 hours creating the billboard.
