AB InBev acquires SABMiller in beer mega deal
A beer mega merger whetted the appetites of readers to this site, when Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) acquired SABMiller in a deal reported at the time to be worth £68bn.
Global brewing powerhouse AB InBev added SABMiller brands’ Peroni, Grolsch, Miller, Miller Lite, Lech and Pilsner Urquell and to its already healthy portfolio of Budweiser, Beck’s, Corona, Stella Artois and many more.
It also acquired a global workforce of 68,000 from SABMiller.
What happened next: The month’s following the deal in October have been anything plain sailing for AB InBev.
The brewer has been forced to put Peroni and Grolsch up for sale to appease competition regulation authorities, but have struggled to find an EU buyer.
It has also put London-based craft brewer Meantime up for sale in December, then only weeks later bought London-based craft brewer Camden Town Brewery.
BrewDog refused to continue selling Camden Town’s brands, including Camden Hells, after the announcement was made.
