Big four could become big three
Claims that two of the big four supermarkets could merge to leave just three major players in the retail sector proved popular with readers.
Morrisons and Sainsbury were identified as the two most likely to merge, according to market analyst Julian Wild.
Wild said it was a “strong possibility” as the big four struggled and continued to eat each other’s lunch.
What happened next: Well, no news so far. But Morrisons life president Ken Morrison did buy £1M of Sainsbury’s shares.
