S&A Foods enters administration
S&A Foods plunged into administration in October, marking the end of the curry business started by former Food Manufacture Personality of the Year Perween Warsi on her kitchen table in 1987.
The business ceased production at its Derby headquarters, after it lost its only contract with Asda, with 300 employees left without work.
Warsi was forced to deny reports Asda dropped S&A Foods because of quality problems, instead claiming the retailer chose to use a cheaper supplier.
What happened next: 2 Sisters Food Group snapped up the production premises on Sir Francis Ley Industrial Estate, Shaftsbury Street South in Derby in early December.
A local councillor said the move could be a “early Christmas present” for the workers that had lost their jobs.
News of 2 Sisters acquisition proved almost as popular with readers of FoodManufacture.co.uk as the initial news and was actually shared more times, with 583 people sharing the news on social media.
