Leaner manufacturing and improved staff engagement are the twin targets of Kinnerton Confectionery’s site in Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire.

Factory general manager Mark Bullock explained that the factory was looking to fully embed a lean manufacturing programme, as well as working towards green and black belt lean six sigma qualifications.

In this exclusive video interview – filmed as part of our Me and my factory profile of the factory – Bullock explained: “We are progressing towards the end of our lean bit training and we will drive that home with lean focused teams and lean interventions in house.”

An autonomous maintenance programme will be the next step for the factory, Bullock told FoodManufacture.co.uk. That was designed to encourage engineers to take a more active role in problem solving.

Zero to landfill’

“We have a green team onsite that drives our sustain agenda and took us to ‘zero to landfill’ a couple of years ago.”
