Weight management and an ageing population are two major global trends affecting product development and ingredient use in the dairy sector.

That’s the view of Chris Brockman, regional manager, food and drink for Mintel’s Europe, Middle East and Africa regions, who spoke to FoodManufacture.co.uk at the Food Ingredients Europe 2013 trade show in Frankfurt.

“We’re seeing a lot of attention being paid to addressing some of the nutritional needs of older consumers, reducing packaging size, format size, also making packaging easier to get into,” said Brockman.

Listen to this exclusive podcast to find out what impact Brockman said changes to EU Regulation was having on new product development in the sector – and how it is resulting in many firms using ingredients such as calcium and fibre in innovative ways.
