Faster more consistent weighing
Adams Foods has achieved consistent weighing accuracy at higher speeds than manual labelling by implementing 16 Marel OCM9500 box labellers on its packing line.

Adams Foods supplies retailers with household brands of cheese and butter, including Kerrygold and Pilgrims Choice.

In 2008 the firm invested £30M in a modern processing plant at its cheese packing facility in Leek, Staffordshire.

David Shepherd, engineering projects manager at Adams, invested in Marel's OCM9500 fully automatic box/crate labeller, which is designed to offer consistent weighing accuracy at higher speeds than manual labelling and reduces manning levels on the line.

In 2011 and early 2012 Adams Foods installed 16 Marel OCM9500s, all of which run on multiple shifts.

Shepherd says: "They operate reliably and give me the paybacks that I expected."

The OCM9500s are linked to Marel's Innova production software, which produces a variety of operational reports such as throughputs and giveaway.

Another major benefit is that labels are configured remotely in the offices and then downloaded to the OCM9500s on the factory floor.

The machines are designed for ease of operation with an ergonomically designed touch screen and drag and drop facility.
