UK appoints first food counsellor for China
The UK appointed its first ever Chinese food counsellor to boost trade deals to the country.
Head of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ (DEFRA’s) farming team Karen Miller will take up the role in the spring.
She would be based in the British embassy in Beijing and would represent the interests of UK businesses already exporting food and drink to China and firms looking to open new trade links, said DEFRA.
It added that the new role would involve identifying opportunities for new markets and further developing the UK’s relationship with key Chinese authorities.
DEFRA secretary of state Elizabeth Truss said the appointment would help UK firms take advantage of the “vast opportunities” in China.
