Welsh food and drink board appoints chair
Boss of The Village Bakery Robin Jones was appointed as interim chair of the new Food and Drink Wales Industry Board this month.
Jones led the Village Bakery from a single unit business in 2000 to a company that now operates on three sites and employs more than 300 staff. The Penrith-based business received the St David’s award for enterprise in 2014.
His initial responsibility will be to begin the process of identifying members of the shadow Industry board and pull together a work programme for the new body.
Welsh economy minister Edwina Hart said: “Wales’s food and farming industry is a significant contributor to the Welsh economy, accounting for £5.2bn turnover each year. I recognise, however, that we must do more to help this important sector deliver greater profitability, growth and jobs.
“The creation of this new industry board has been very well received and supported by the industry and I am confident it will provide clear leadership and a strong voice for Wales’s food and drink businesses.“
